Everything you need to know about MacCleaner
Getting Started
System Requirements
- Minimum: macOS 13.0 (Ventura)
- Recommended: macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later
- Processor: Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) or Intel
- Memory: 4 GB RAM minimum
- Storage: 50 MB for installation
Installation
- Download MacCleaner.dmg from our website
- Open the .dmg file
- Drag MacCleaner to your Applications folder
- Launch MacCleaner from Applications
- Grant necessary permissions when prompted
Granting Permissions
MacCleaner requires Full Disk Access to scan your Mac effectively:
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security
- Click "Full Disk Access"
- Click the + button and select MacCleaner
- Restart MacCleaner for changes to take effect
First Scan
After installation:
- Launch MacCleaner
- Click "Start Scan" on the Dashboard
- Wait for the scan to complete (usually 2-5 minutes)
- Review the results by category
- Select items to clean and click "Move to Trash"
Features
Smart Scanning
MacCleaner uses a rule-based engine to identify junk files:
- Application caches and logs
- Browser data (cookies, cache)
- Duplicate files
- Unused language files
- Trash bin contents
System Data Cleanup
Premium feature that reduces System Data storage:
- User logs and crash reports
- Application Support caches
- Xcode derived data
- iOS device backups
- Mail and browser data
- Old installer packages
Large File Finder
Find and remove large files eating up your storage. Filter by size (100 MB+, 1 GB+, 5 GB+) and see files sorted by size. Preview files before deletion with Quick Look.
Safe Deletion
All files are moved to Trash, never permanently deleted. You can restore anything from Trash if you change your mind. We never touch system files or critical data.
Usage Guide
Running a Scan
- Open MacCleaner
- Click "Start Scan" or press ⌘+S
- Wait for scan to complete
- Review results in the Cleanup tab
Selecting Items to Clean
- Items are unchecked by default for safety
- Review each category and check items you want to delete
- Use "Select All" carefully - review before deleting
- Hover over items to see full path and details
Deleting Files
- Check the items you want to delete
- Click "Move to Trash" button
- Confirm the deletion
- Files are moved to Trash (not permanently deleted)
Restoring Deleted Files
- Open Finder
- Go to Trash (⌘+Shift+Delete)
- Find your files
- Right-click and select "Put Back"
Viewing Scan History
MacCleaner automatically saves your scan history. View past scans, see what was cleaned, and track space recovered over time in the Dashboard.
Troubleshooting
Scan Not Finding Files
Solution:
- Verify Full Disk Access is granted (System Settings → Privacy)
- Restart MacCleaner after granting permissions
- Check that your Mac has junk files to find
App Won't Open
Solution:
- Right-click MacCleaner and select "Open" (first launch only)
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway"
- Ensure you're running macOS 13.0 or later
Premium Features Not Working
Solution:
- Click "Restore Purchases" in Settings
- Check your subscription status in Dashboard
- Verify payment went through in your email
- Contact support if issue persists
Slow Scanning
Solution:
- Close other applications during scan
- First scan is always slower (building cache)
- External drives slow down scans - disconnect if not needed
Billing & Subscriptions
Upgrading to Premium
- Click "Upgrade" in the app or visit pricing page
- Choose Monthly ($9.99/mo) or Lifetime ($49.99)
- Enter payment details
- Premium features activate immediately
Managing Subscription
Access your subscription settings:
- Dashboard → Subscription
- View current plan and renewal date
- Update payment method
- Cancel subscription
- View billing history
Canceling Subscription
- Go to Dashboard → Subscription
- Click "Cancel Subscription"
- Confirm cancellation
- Access continues until period ends
No charges after current period. See our refund policy.
Family Sharing (Lifetime)
Lifetime plan includes family sharing for up to 5 Macs. Share your purchase with family members through the Dashboard.
Advanced
Keyboard Shortcuts
- ⌘ S - Start Scan
- ⌘ D - Delete Selected
- ⌘ , - Open Settings
- ⌘ Q - Quit MacCleaner
Data Storage
MacCleaner stores all data locally on your Mac:
~/Library/Application Support/MacCleaner/- Scan history and settings- No cloud sync - complete privacy
- Delete app to remove all data
Uninstalling MacCleaner
- Quit MacCleaner
- Drag MacCleaner from Applications to Trash
- Empty Trash to complete removal
- Optional: Remove Application Support folder
